Himeji Castle has turned white

Himeji Castle is in Himeji city located about 90km west of Osaka. It is a national treasure, and was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1993. The castle was originally built as a fort in 1346, and the current castle was completed in 1609 after the establishment of Edo Shogunate (the feudal government with its capital in Tokyo). After that, the castle has undergone extensive repairs about once a century. Just now, it is under repair since 2009. In 2011, the main castle tower was covered with a temporary building for repairs.
