Marubiru (Marunouchi Building)Marubiru is a tall building towering in front of Marunouchi exit of Tokyo station.
The formal name is "Marunouchi Building", and "Marubiru" is a popular name in Japanese.

The former building was built in 1923.
It was an 8-story building, and it was said that the building was the biggest one in Asia around that time.
So for a long time this was a symbol of modern big city.

But because it became too old, it was demolished in 1999 and the new current building was built in 2002.
It has 37 stories and is 180 meters high. Additionally the bottom part of it is made in the form of old building.

There are many shops and restaurants from the first basement to the 6th floor and on the 35-36th floors.

Across the road, there is a building "Shin-Marunouchi Building".
This building originally was built in 1952, and was rebuilt in 2007.
