Bizen Osafune Japanese sword museum is a museum introducing Japanese sword.
It is located about 20 km east of Okayama city and is in Osafune town in Setouchi city.
Since the ancient times, good iron sand had been produced in the mountain around Osafune area.
So, Japanese swords had been produced in this area.
In the 16th century, civil wars often broke out.
Many Japanese swords were produced for the war in Osafune area and Seki area in Gifu Prefecture.
After the end of fudal age in 1868, Japanese sword had been unnecessary as a weapon of war and became an art craftwork.

In this museum, Japanese sword in Osafune is introduced as a work of art.
And, there are a few workshops of Japanese sword in the site.
We can see the works of swordsmith, carving on metal, lacquer painting, etc. in the workshops.
How to get here
By JR Ako Line, from Okayama to Osafune, about 28 minutes by local train.
Then, you can go to the museum by taxi. (About 3 km from the station)
Or, by route bus for Katakami, about 1 hour and 5 minutes from Okaya station to Tenno stop.
Then, about 700 meters walk from Tenno stop.
