Yanagibashi Central Market is a wholesale market of Nagoya.
It is located only 400 meters east of Nagoya station, and is next to the high‐rise buildings in front of Nagoya station.
This market was opened in 1910.
At that time, this area was out of the western edge of Nagoya city.
So this position was a reasonable place.
But, Nagoya city continued to develop and this district has become the central area.
The atmosphere seems to former Tsukiji Market in Tokyo.
The site is within 150 meters, there are about 300 shops in the market.
There are two buildings (Marunaka Food Center, Nagoya Sougou Shijou), and one-third of shops are in the buildings.
Fish and vegetable are the main foods, and processed foods and flowers are also sold.
Of course, there are various restaurants using the fresh foods in the market.
Many shops of the market are closed around 10:00, but most of the restaurants are open until around 14:00.
(It is closed on Sunday, Wednesday and Japanese national holiday.)
A few sushi bars are opened 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
