And this park is known for a major cherry blossom-viewing spot in Hokkaido.
There are about 160 cherry trees in the park.
Because Hokkaido is colder than the other islands of Japan, the trees of Somei-Yoshino (Japan's major variety of cherry tree) are not many.
Instead, there are many Ezoyamazakura (Prunus sargentii) and Yaezakura (double-flowered cherry) trees.
Somei-Yoshino trees bloom from the end of April to early May, and the other cherry trees bloom in mid-May.
