Yudanaka-Shibu Onsen towns are located about 25 km east-northeast of Nagano city.
It is at the western foot of the mountains of Shiga highland and is on the way to the highland.
And Jigokudani Monkey Park known as Snow Monkey Mountain is not so far from these onsen towns.
Yamase River flows from southeast to northwest, and there are more than a dozen hotels and ryokans along the river.
The onsen town is Yudanaka Onsen.

The area of the town is about 1.2 km from east to west.
There are also nine communal bathhouses, but they are for the guests staying in Yudanaka Onsen.
Yudanaka terminal station of Nagano Dentetsu railway is at the center of the town.

There is Shibu Onsen town right to the east of Yudanaka Onsen.
The town is located along Yokoyu River which is a branch of Yamase River.
There are more than 30 wooden ryokans along a narrow stone-paved street about 700 meters long.
Also nine communal bathhouses are in this area.
Each bathhouse has a hot spring with different quality and ingredients.

These bathhouses are for the guests staying in Shibu onsen, so all guests can visit the bathhouse freely.
(The other visitors can use only a bathhouse [No.9 Shibu-Ooyu].)
When you visit a bathhouse, you can get a stamp of the bathhouse. If you have gotten the stamps of nine bathhouses, it is said that you will become happy.
How to get here
From Nagano to Yudanaka, by Nagano Dentetsu railway, about 50 minutes by limited express, about 1 hour and 10 to 20 minutes by local train (Probably you need change to a train on the way).
